In response to sparse open green areas in Hackney Wick (and ultimately climate change and habitat
loss), the project is an immersive architectural forest experience for locals, which in turn encourages
biodiversity into the area whilst simultaneously acting as an extension of the home during these
times.
Within the forest are a diverse range of plant and tree species, chosen to host different micro- ecologies. Additionally, the site landscape changes drastically with various hills and hollows (influenced by mountain ranges), dominating the topography of the forest floor. The project also has espalier fruit trees, where neighbours and locals can cultivate various apple and pear species; as well as a greenhouse in which many fruit and vegetables can be grown by the community.
