In light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing has become the new ‘norm’. Taking this into consideration whilst designing my fish and chip shop in Bermonsey, I allowed there to be enough space for customers to be 2 metres apart- ensuring their safety in order to eat comfortably. The moveable facade I designed allows for open air circulation and a flow through the shop, providing indoor seating and also outdoor seating for people who may have come from the surrounding parks with their pets. Using the classic themes of ‘fish and chips’ I developed a bubbled effect on the bar/foot sockets in the shop to tie in with the crispy skin on battered fish, and took inspiration from newspaper packaging to make a geometric door design - providing an abstract dining experience.
