COMMUNITY ART HUB

William Laast
This project is about the redevelopment of Queens Yard, an old industrial area characterized by warehouses situated in Hackney Wick, what I’m proposing for this area is a Community Art Hub which will be the integration between retail spaces, gallery – exhibition spaces with art workshops and a youth centre alongside with green spaces. This space will function as a main gathering space for the community, preserving the character, heritage, and artistic identity
of the area; This will be achieved through a minimum impact intervention on most of the façade of the warehouses and through research and experimentation. Overall, the final development in my opinion is a good integration between community and art and preserves in a very simple manner the history of the site and what the site stands for. The integration of green space plays a fundamenta role in the enrichment of the site bringing together all different types of demographics.
